The Company You Keep
Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats: for as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. Proverbs 23:6-7 (KJV)
Have you ever known someone who was a social climber? Have you watched them "position" themselves with others who are considered "influential", so as to further their own agenda? In my mind, there is a huge difference between networking and making an alliance to further your own selfish cause. When a Christian is involved in networking, he or she is careful in choosing an individual with whom to align themselves. Christ must be glorified in all we do! Design specific criteria to use to form alliances.
Wisdom dictates observing an individual's behavior, the decisions they make in dealing with others and observing their friends and business acquaintances. Because it is, after all, a covenant relationship and a covenant is serious business! Certain individuals, simply put, are opportunists, perhaps miss-representing themselves or their abilities. Don't be left holding the bag!
Pray, pray and pray again! You represent God in the earth and you carry His name. Be careful not to sully the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by dealing with those who are ambitious at the expense of ethical and moral behavior. Ephesians 5:6 states, "Let no man deceive you with vain words: For because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience."
You don't want to be anywhere near these people!
