Additionally, we have created this platform to EMPOWER, EDUCATE, & EQUIP you on your journey towards embracing A NEW ME in Christ.

I want you to mark your calendars for next Tuesday, March 8th, to join another LIVE discussion for the monthly segment of “A NEW ME with Dr. E.” Last month, Licensed Professional Counselor, Natalie Dyer, Owner of DyerNeed Counseling, and I discussed “Stress Management” and it was an amazing segment! We received positive feedback and participation. Therefore, we have decided to join forces on a monthly basis to EMPOWER, EDUCATE, & EQUIP you in the area of mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness.

We are excited to announce our next discussion topic, “Is Counseling REALLY Necessary?” We will be debunking the myths about counseling, discussing the benefits of counseling, discover the major differences between which mental health professional is best for you, and so much more! You don’t want to miss out!

In the meantime, I wanted to provide you with 3 reasons WHY counseling can benefit you:

1. You Need Objectivity-

To be objective means not influenced by personal feelings or opinions in considering and representing facts. I would be the first to admit, I have some amazing friends and mentors in my life. I can call them at any given time and they will be right there by my side to console me or give me their advice.

However, there came a time in my life when I felt I needed some objectivity towards my situation. It wasn’t because I felt they didn’t support me. It was quite the opposite. However, I just needed someone who could provide me with some guidance who didn’t have a personal vested interest in my life.

For that reason I sought out a counselor during that season. Although I am a counselor, I knew I had to step outside of my own thoughts and seek out expert advice. I’m so grateful I made that decision because it provided me with a lot of insight I couldn’t have received from my close friends or family.

The benefits of receiving counseling is you will be able to receive an objective view of your situation. You may have supportive friends and family like me, but you also have to give them a break! Furthermore, they may not be equipped to provide you with the guidance you really need in your particular situation. I say that lovingly. The truth is, friends or family have already developed an opinion about your situation and furthermore a solution to YOUR issue. A good counselor will guide you into making your own decisions allowing you to take ownership of your life. This creates autonomy and growth for you personally.

2. It Benefits Our TOTAL Being-

Counseling is cathartic to our souls. By releasing our inner thoughts and emotions to a trusted counselor we will experience soul catharsis or cleansing. In 1 Thessalonians 5:23 part of that scripture reads, “May you spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

We are a tripartite being, meaning we are made of three parts (spirit, soul, and body). Additionally, there is a direct connection between our spirit (God conscious), soul (mind, will, emotions), and our body (physical; houses the spirit and soul). When we are not functioning at 100% capacity due to unforeseen life’s circumstances, it affects every aspect of who we are. We must acquire the tools necessary to find solutions to our problems.

God’s word is definitely our source of strength and refuge during difficult times. I am also a firm believer as Christ is also the “Wonderful, Counselor,” who will NEVER hesitate to come to our rescue, God has also equipped individuals to carry the mantle of “counselor” to help you experience a release from life’s difficulties emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Therefore, receiving counseling can benefit your total being.

3. Experience Resolution from Unresolved Past Traumas-

I’m sure we have all experienced a loss or trauma in our lives. Unfortunately, it is inevitable. The scripture Psalm, 34:19 validates inevitable afflictions which reads, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all (ESV).” Lets be honest. No one wants to unearth pain simply because it’s PAINFUL! It’s difficult mustering the strength or courage to resolve past traumatic events.

I know because I’ve been there. It’s also my area of expertise: Trauma Resolution Therapy. I understand the mental, emotional, and spiritual affects of trauma. However, God understands it best which is why He will bring deliverance to you if you’re willing to accept it. Maybe your deliverance will come in the from of counseling to experience resolution from your past unresolved traumas. I urge you to pray about it and ask God to give you the courage to receive truth. If counseling is where He’s pointing you towards, please know you will benefit because He is leading you there!
