Introducing...HIM

February 2, 2016

You've seen his social media appearances from time to time but let’s get this straight, he's probably one of the few people left on earth who doesn't even have a Facebook page! Can you believe it? LOL He HATES taking pictures, but as you can see he was being a supportive husband. (Because I begged him!:)

If you have ever been around him then you would quickly agree he is every bit of CRAZY funny! God has to bless his ability to have self-control because he lacks a filter. He speaks his mind and trust me when I say there has never been any "guess work" as it relates to his values or stance on anything in life!

He's one of the most well-rounded men I know. He's "the hard knocks knower without the scars to show ya..." (lyrics from "He Is," Heather Headley) because he's from good ole’ North Philly! Yup, he’s an East Coast brother! He has his street credibility in which he can relate to the homies from the block, but he can also hang with the best of them in the boardroom. He’s a man of power, brilliance, professionalism, and I absolutely love his versatility! He's highly opinionated, oh, but don't get it twisted either, he can also state the facts! He's like a walking encyclopedia of useful and useless information! LOL

He loves discussing relationships, the righteousness of God, and of course sports (football to be exact).  I love everything about him! He's a great friend, amazing husband, super loving father, and just a super cool dude to be around. This is my fine husband y'all! :) I'm proud to call him that, proud to be his wife, to have his child, and to be protected by him.  He's a warrior, filled with wisdom and discernment. He's poured so much into me in who I have become. He is a contributor to my success and adds fuel to my fire for purpose!

When we initially started dating, his friends used to tell me how amazed he found someone to settle down with. Before you start going there in your thoughts I'll be first to tell you that my husband has never been married and didn't have any children prior to me. It's what I prayed for (it was my preference).  God granted me the desires of my heart. His friends were happy when he announced to them "I found the one" because quite frankly they didn't think what he desired in a wife "existed." He may have settled in past dating relationships but he would NEVER marry for the sake of marrying. The first question I posed to him when we met, “why haven't you ever married?” His answer, “because, I never found what I was looking for.”

Let me explain it like this, my husband loooves shopping just as much as I do! Not to mention, he buys my clothes okay! I'm looking fabulous because of his personal touch! Ha! Go Hubster! Seriously, he always said, finding the one for him was like shopping. You see so many selections but you overlook some, stop to view others, but you keep looking.

You know what you want but you don't see it, then again you don't know EXACTLY what you want, but when you see it...BAM! You have found what you’re looking for. It’s that perfectly tailored shirt (he has an amazing shirt collection) you believe was made just for you. It took him 42 years to find me. He knew what he wanted, but he just didn't find exactly what he was looking for until BAM! This fly mixed chick, long hair, cute smile, fire body (he wrote this part by the way...LOL..jk) came walking on the scene. He spotted me…Homeboy found me! I was HIS SHIRT! LOL!

Many of you know my story on the backend: the death of a husband, divorce, forced and broken relationships, God was preparing me for him and vice versa.  Obviously, I didn’t know who my husband was at the time but I do remember praying for him often. While it took him 42 years to find me, it took me over 12 years of waiting until God said…”it is time.” I tell him often, "Babe, you are God's PROMISE to me."

You can ask him, our first conversation he told me he could see me as "his wife!" He never said that to another woman, knowing him the way I do now, he was telling me the truth. Sounds exciting and romantic huh? Well, not being arrogant but I've heard that way too many times. I didn't even bring up my profession (Christian Counselor) in fear that dudes would always use the "Jesus Card" to get close to me. Oh no, not this time! I was super happy in my singleness, but this guy...our first conversation he broke out his bible app and asked me to read his favorite scripture on wisdom:

Proverbs 4: 4-9

Then he taught me, and he said to me, “Take hold of my words with all your heart;
keep my commands, and you will live. Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them. Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. Cherish her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you. She will give you a garland to grace your head and present you with a glorious crown.”

Then he asked me to replace “wisdom” with my name. I was like WOW…Okay?? Dude is smooth…LOL As we were getting ready to part ways (the night we met) after hours of talking he told me emphatically, “ go home and ask God about me.” Then I knew he was serious! Besides, no man has EVER said that to me! Like REALLY? I sure did go home and ask God about him! God told me, since he sees you as “wisdom,” exercise “wisdom” as you get to know him.

My husband knew I was "the One" for him day one, but me? No mam…I HAD to be sure! I was “exercising wisdom” as I sought the Lord in prayer sooo many times! I even kept “a log of God's confirmations” of my husband being the One for me. Yes...confirmations (plural). I needed more than one confirmation to be sure so I wouldn’t be heading down a path of destruction. Even the first lady at my previous church walked up to us quoting, "he who finds a wife, finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD" (Proverbs 18:22). We weren't even engaged yet! LOL

God is just amazing like that. If you’re “in the wait” while you’re “in the pain,” remain on your journey of healing WITH God until He releases you. It won’t be easy and you might make some mistakes along the way, but keep trusting God with your situation. He loves you and desires to give you His best! Also, you can’t compare my story or anyone else’s story to your experience with your future mate. I used to do from time to time because my story didn’t look like someone else's story or "matched" their dating experience so I thought something must be wrong. I had to STOP that and embrace this amazing journey as OUR unique story. Oh and I have and I wouldn't trade it for ANYTHING in the world!

I know my story was probably just getting good and juicy but trust me; I’ll have a lot more to share. I will tell you we did experience challenges along the way just like any other couple, but let me tell you something about MY man. He's a changed man because of me, but I cannot tell you how much of a changed woman I am because of HIM. Now you have a glimpse of US, you can understand why I am so grateful to God for restoring my life with...HIM.

Get ready to embrace “A NEW ME: Transparently, Abundantly.”
