Beat the Heat: Beauty Essentials
This hot season continues to
be upon us and if you are in the
south as I am, you have been
experiencing an all-out heat
wave. Talk about miserable!
Summer time comes with higher
temperatures, higher humidity in
some parts of the country, and a
major need for some summer
specific beauty products to
combat the heat. Today, I will
discuss four beauty essential
products to "Beat the Heat."
1. Tinted Moisturizer
When it’s hot or humid outside, the last thing a lot of women want to do is apply a heavy or thick foundation. While there are some out there that are light and buildable in coverage (such as my favorite, MAC Matchmaster Foundation), a tinted moisturizer can be a better choice in the summer months, or if you just prefer lighter coverage in general.
Tinted moisturizer has less color pigments in its formula and typically has more humectants because it literally is a moisturizer. Two great examples of tinted moisturizer is the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer and Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturizing Balm. To learn more about great tinted moisturizers for various skin types, check out this ELLE article, which discusses the best tinted moisturizers of the year.
2. Complexion Scrub
Often times, we experience more problematic skin in the summer. We sweat more and have more direct exposure to sunlight. This can be the recipe for frequent breakouts. Cleansing the skin is vital, and utilizing a scrub after your regular cleanser helps to achieve a deeper clean, plus safely remove dead skin cells and encourage healthy cell turnover. This helps serums and moisturizer work in the skin even better.
My favorite scrub right now is the Ole Hendrickson Complexion Walnut Scrub, which is available at Sephora. It's walnut powder and Korean ginseng creates a gritty texture works that wonders on the skin and leave it clean, smooth, and healthy.
3. Vitamin C
Vitamin C is truly a holy grail for the skin, especially in the heat. Vitamin C benefits the skin by fighting free radical damage caused by the environment, improves sun damage, brightens, stimulates collagen production, and prevents premature aging.
Using Vitamin C in a serum form after cleansing and before moisturizing is ideal. The Truth Serum Collagen Booster by Ole Hendrickson is my all-time favorite serum and also available at Sephora. Once you incorporate this product into your skin regimen, you won’t turn back.
4. Moisturizer with Sunscreen
Sunscreen is a must during the summer, even if you are not at the pool or the beach. All skin complexions should use at least an SPF 15 product on the face, which blocks about 94% of UVB rays. I have discussed this product before in my previous blogs, but I highly recommend the Neutrogena Visibly Even Facial Moisturizer, which has SPF 30. This moisturizer is lightweight, great on all skin types, and can be found in most drug stores.
