It’s All About Him

"That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." 2 Timothy 3:17 (KJV)

Today’s scripture speaks to the fact that the word of God is that which prepares Christians to work in their God-given missions. If we are going to work diligently for the kingdom of God, then the Bible is that which equips us for this work.

Ephesians 2:10 says we are God’s workmanship, created unto good works. The word for workmanship is the Greek word poiema, which means “we are His beautiful poem”. The Jerusalem Bible says we are His “work of art”. God did not merely save us for us to just be saved, but God saved us to work to build His kingdom in the earth. When we do as He requires with an eye towards excellence, we are a harmonious poem in His sight! The scripture above says that doing good works is why we were created! Don’t get it twisted – we are not working to be saved but, rather working because we are saved!

In 2 Corinthians 3:8-9, we see Paul speaking about how kingdom work is done. He says that one plants and another waters and God gives the increase. It is interesting to note that the words “plants” and “waters” are spoken in the past tense, as something that has already been finished, definite and completed in the past. “Gives the increase” is in the imperfect tense, showing that it is the continued work of God.

These verses also say that each person’s reward is based on how well he does his own work. Although we work together, we are rewarded individually. Believe me when I say that purpose is tied to Heavenly rewards.

Those who labor in obscurity without earthly acknowledgement or praise, will receive great rewards in Heaven.

This scripture also says that we are fellow workers with God! How magnificent a privilege that is! God has created us to work alongside Him to accomplish His will in the earth.

Although we are the recipients of the incredibly generous gift of salvation, it is not just for us. We have a part to play with God to bring about salvation to those who don’t know Him. He brings our life’s experiences to bear in the work He has called us to do, because our lives testify of His goodness to others having our same experience. This is God’s plan and it is all about Him!
