Who is Barbara Calloway?

I am a Mother, Leader, Prophetess and Teacher of God’s word.

What does it mean to be a “prophetess” and when was the moment you realized you had the gift prophesy?

A Prophetess serves as God’s spokesperson or mouthpiece and to utter words under divine inspiration of things to come. The Lord also deals with me in dreams and open visions. These are mostly warnings that I share with specific people or to the Body of Christ. At a young age of 14, I begin having open visions, as a matter of fact, years before my father passed away, I saw it happening. It was not until I started in ministry that I actually realized that I had this gift and begin to dedicate myself to the Lord for this specific call.

What other spiritual gifts do you possess?

I possess the gift of discernment, knowledge, exhortation, evangelism, teaching and administration.

How was Barbara Calloway Ministries (BCM) birthed?

The ministry was birthed through prayer. I knew that the call of God was on my life, however during a 21-day consecration with my home church, I asked God to really speak to me and confirm the calling. On day 22, two separate people called me to preach at their church and I knew for certain that I was to begin in ministry.

What were some of the challenges you experienced birthing BCM?

I was challenged in what people would think about me. This includes some of the mistakes I've made from having a baby out of wedlock to being married and divorced more than once. Being a Pastor’s Kid, I didn’t think I would live up to the expectations that people would possibly have on me because of the legacy of my father. It was a lot of pressure to walk in ministry. I was never challenged within myself by being a woman in ministry because I’ve had some great examples of strong women in my family birth out ministries and even churches.

Tell us about one particular challenge in your life when you wanted to give up and how did you pull through?

I can remember that like it was yesterday. Shortly after accepting the call to ministry, everything took off pretty fast in terms of my preaching schedule, I was traveling and evangelizing so much until it was impossible for me to work a full-time job and by the leading of the spirit and by faith, I resigned from corporate America as a single parent with two kids. It got really rough financially and was stressful. I remember saying I can’t do this, I’m going back to Corporate America. I had received offers from the company I left but the Lord spoke to me through a friend and reminded me that He was going to take care of me, provide for me, and quitting was not an option. I’m so grateful that I didn’t quit and that God has been faithful to me and my family.

Tell us about your Faith in God.

My Faith in God is the very foundation and essence of my life. Not only do I believe that the God of the Bible is real, I also believe in His word. I believe God for everything, my faith keeps me grounded and focused. I’ve seen God perform so many miracles in my life, even recently when the doctors told me I had cancer, my faith in God’s healing was unwavering and there are no cancer traits in my body whatsoever. Hallelujah!

Because you are in ministry what do you believe are the most common challenges many ministers face going

forth in their purpose?

The most challenges that ministers face is: Accepting the call itself and doing what I call "busting a move." Fear and intimidation can keep you from going forward. You wonder am I good enough, do I know enough, or will people listen to me? Inadequacy is the perfect word to sum it up.

What advice would you give someone who believes has a ministry they want to birth but they don’t know how to do it?

Find a trusted mentor. Get around someone that’s doing what you believe you’ve been called to do. This is a biblical principal, Elijah trained Elisha and passed on a mantle. Ruth had Naomi and the disciples had Jesus to train them. The mistake that we make is feeling like we have to figure it out by ourselves. I can’t tell you how many countless conversations I've had, and books that I’ve read to prepare me for the call. And I still have spiritual mentors that I learn from as well as books that I read to make me better.

Share two of your favorite bible scriptures and why are they your favorites?

"Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations." (Jeremiah 1:5)

This scripture speaks to my purpose and the specific call of God upon my life. I love the fact that God knows everything about me, the good, the bad and the ugly and yet he decided to use me!

"When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee." (Isaiah 43:2)

This scripture reminds me that no matter what I face in life God is with me, and there is great peace in knowing that just because I’m going through things they only will not overwhelm me.

In your spare time what do you like to do for fun?

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, going to the movies and nice restaurants.
