“Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.” ― Wayne W. Dyer

In a world where we are constantly bombarded with social media posts, tweets, scopes, videos and pictures; we are always aware of what someone else is doing, how they are doing it, and whom they are doing it with. We oftentimes get so consumed with the lives of others that we begin to lose perspective about our own lives.

I have been guilty of this very thing! Looking at what someone else is doing and inevitably beginning to compare myself, count my flaws, highlight my shortcomings, judge my lack of, and the list goes on and on. I have, at times, lost sight of the things around me that I have to be so grateful for.

Many of us begin to look at these things from a perspective that creates negatively in our space.  We see the things that others have that we may want and desire. Sometimes this can lead to feeling as though we don’t measure up. It may be the car, the house, the husband, the kids, or the vacations. It can be any number of things we see causing us to doubt if we will ever get the things we want in life.  That is until we change our way of thinking. I often say, I changed my thinking and it changed my life.

I had to come to a point in life where I accepted where I was, what I had, what I was doing and where I was going. Although incredibly cliché, you have to be able to look at the half glass of water as half full instead of half empty. It’s the angle at which you view things that change how those very things look to you. We have been given so much in this life and yes we have lost a lot as well. But beginning to relish in what we have is the beauty of being able to choose your perspective. Recognizing that you hold the blueprint to your life and you can make the choices to move forward or stay trapped. You can believe you are failing or you can look at it as learning from experiences and growing. I have adopted the attitude of, I never lose, either I win or I learn.

But the greatest lesson for me and one of the best decisions I have made was beginning to look at my life through God’s perspective. Understanding that some of the things I don’t have may not be the things God wants to give me at this point in life or maybe ever. Realizing that how I saw my life may not align with God’s will for my life. Seeing things from His angle and allowing Him to guide my path. Totally releasing myself to His will and what He had planned for me. One of my favorite scriptures (that I had engraved on a ring that I wear) is, Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (NIV).

Once you are able to embrace your life, with all of its imperfections and realize it is the perfect life, given only to you, that’s when everything around you changes.  This is when you begin to recognize and truly see what life has to offer you. Sometimes this means reevaluating career, financial decisions, relationships and how we choose to respond to it all. It’s a choice we make, to see things differently and to change how we react to certain things, people and/or situations. A change in perspective, a view from a different angle, only enhances what you see and allows you to gain more knowledge on how to deal with choices you have to make in life.

“With everything that has happened to you, you can either feel sorry for yourself or treat what has happened as a gift. Everything is either an opportunity to grow or an obstacle to keep you from growing. You get to choose.”

― Wayne W. Dyer

I have chosen to look at the glass half full and the blessings have not stopped. Choose your perspective, it can truly change your life.

Blessings, Peace, and Love~
