The ColorDuJour Experience!

Happy F.A.B. (Fashion and Beauty) Friday REAL Beauties! I hope you all are abounding in God's blessings and beauty!

Today, I am really excited to blog about a recent makeup class I attended with a fabulous Houston makeup artist, Alaina Saulsberry, owner and founder of ColorDuJour, LLC. Alaina is currently offering classes in various cities across the country. She targets both professional makeup artists and everyday women who love wearing makeup who desire to improve their application skills.

I attended a class in April called “The ColorDuJour Experience.” The purpose of this four-hour class is to guide women through a complete makeup application, while navigating through techniques. This includes foundation selection, brow shaping, eye shadow blending, color correction, highlighting/contouring and etc. I can say this class was all of that and MUCH more!

Today, I want to highlight some key points I learned in the class. First, is the importance of priming the face prior to applying foundation. Alaina has developed her own priming process for her clients. However, for everyday working women such as ourselves, a smoothing primer such as the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer or Makeup Forever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Primer is a great product to have. These primers balance and smooth out the texture of the skin to prepare it for a flawless and long-lasting application of foundation. Both primers can be found at Sephora.

After we primed, we shaped our brows. Whether using a pencil or powder, she stressed the importance of using a brow “spoolie” while shaping the brows to keep the hair going in the right direction and disburse the color throughout the brow (for you know, those you accidently fill them in too dark and think you have ruined them). She offers an eyebrow spoolie brush as part of her makeup brush line for only $6!

Third, she discussed the ease of using a damp Beauty Blender to apply foundation and blend during the highlighting/contouring process. I know there is a lot of discussion out there about if the Beauty Blender is really worth the hype, but let me be the one to tell you that it is! The Beauty Blender not only serves as an application tool but blends at the same. Beauty Blenders can be found at Sephora in various colors for $20.

Finally, if you wear falsies she taught us a great tip for removing them from the container. Place your finger in the center of the lash strip and gently pull it down from where it sticks in the container, rather than pull the lashes from the outside corners. Pulling the lashes on the corners can ruin the shaping of the lash.

We learned so much great information. We truly had an amazing ColoDuJour Experience! I would love to discuss my takeaways from the class or any other general makeup questions on our various social media sites where this blog is posted: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Have you attended Alaina's makeup class? If you're interested in The ColorDuJour Experience, I encourage you to visit her website and select the "Classes" option.
